Carnival Week Power Boat Rides – Event Rescheduled

***** EVENT RESCHEDULED *****

Free powerboat rides for children has been postponed until Sunday 5th August 2012 at 12:45.

The weather has cheered up but the swell makes it a rather wet ride ;)

This event will take place on The Cobb – just look for our event volunteers in yellow ‘Lyme Regis Carnival’ jackets.

The Great Lyme Regis Duck Race

The duck race is one of the institutional events throughout the year in Lyme Regis.

Our next race will be on Sunday 14th August at 12 noon.
The race begins at Higher Mill Flats, just up from the wood mead road bridge across the river Lym, racing downstream for about 1/3rd mile and finishing at Jordan Flats in about 15 minutes. (Depending on the flow of the river)
Our 5-800 ducks are ‘chased’ by our very own Lyme Regis RNLI Lifeboat crew.
Arrive early to ‘sponsor’ a duck, for a chance of winning 1 of 3 cash prizes, available from the start for only £1.
Getting here…
It’s a short, pleasant 15 minute walk from the sea front via Coombe Street and following the upstream path of the beautiful river Lym.
(The finish at Jordan Flats is on Google Maps, follow the path to the start which is just upstream at Higher Mill Flats)

Announcements will be made during the race by our Town Crier (who is also on Twitter @lymetowncrier)

Twitter
Often spectators tweet updates so it’s worth following along of you can.
Please search and use #duckrace to help us share. There is usually enough data signal to do this.

If you have any photos you’d like to share please email them to us photos @lymeregiscarnival.co.uk.

The winners will be announced at the end of the race, on our twitter @lymecarnival and on www.lymeregiscarnival.co.uk

The duck race is suitable for all ages as there are paved paths/roads for the whole route. Good access for buggies, wheelchairs and mobility scooters etc.
Safety
Please take care near the edges of the riverbank and when crossing the road. Event stewards will be on hand if you have any queries.

Never been to one of our duck races before? Here’s the last one from Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week 2012

How to find Lyme Regis including buses

Child Safety – wrist bands to write your mobile number on in case you are separated can be obtained from the Jubilee Pavilion on the Marine Parade and also the Lifeguard station on the beach.

Road Closures – short duration rolling closures to facilitate safe parades and events – roads will be reopened as soon as possible.

Monday 6th August -19:00 – Wheeled Derby – Short duration Coombe Street, Bridge Street, Lower Cart Road.

Thursday 9th August – 21:00 – Walk of Light Torchlight Procession 45 Minute duration Pound Street from Langmoor Gardens, Broad Street, Lower Cart Road, Bottom of Cobb Road by lifeboat station.

Saturday 11th August – 20:00 – Carnival Procession Pound Street, Broad Street, Lower Cart Road, Cobb Road.

Parking Restrictions

We ask drivers not to park their vehicles on the above roads from 60 minutes before the event.  We believe all car parks are operating normally at their advertised times for the duration of Carnival Week.

Part of Holmbush car park is used as an assembly area for carnival procession participants from about 18:00 Saturday 11th August.  There is usually sufficient capacity for visitor parking as well.

Bus Services

We believe that provided the scheduled bus services are running to time, they are unlikely to be affected by our events.
