Lyme Regis Carnival 2014 – Visitor Information

Welcome to Lyme Regis!

Plan Ahead for Lyme Regis Carnival Week 2nd – 10th August 2014

To help you get more from Carnival Week 2014 please click on the links below for important information.

Assistance and information can be obtained from the big yellow Carnival Kiosk which is located on the Marine Parade (sea front) for the whole week.

Further information can be obtained from www.lymeregiscarnival.co.uk or by following @lymecarnival on twitter (#lymeregiscarnival)

We expect busiest days for visitors to be weekends, Thursday night for the Torchlight Procession at 21:00 and especially Saturday Evening 9th August for the Carnival Parade at 20:00 and Fireworks at 22:00.  Please come early!

There is live music in the performance area in the shelters on the Marine Parade on most nights until around 22:30 (varies see programme for details)

Car Parks in Lyme Regis

Park and Ride - please note that Park and Ride is operating to normal timetable. For evening events we suggest returning to your car before the Park and Ride finishes and relocating your car to an alternative carpark closer to the town.

How to find Lyme Regis including buses

Toilets – all toilet facilities in the town are operating as per normal timetable except toilets on the Marine Parade and Broad Street which will be closed shortly after the last scheduled event has finished.

Child Safety – wrist bands to write your mobile number on in case you are separated can be obtained from the Jubilee Pavilion on the Marine Parade and also the Lifeguard station on the beach.

Road Closures – short duration rolling closures to facilitate safe parades and events – roads will be reopened as soon as possible.

Thursday 7th August – 21:00 – Walk of Light Torchlight Procession 45 Minute duration Pound Street from Langmoor Gardens, Broad Street, Lower Cart Road, Bottom of Cobb Road by lifeboat station.

Saturday 9th August – 20:00 – Carnival Procession Pound Street, Broad Street, Lower Cart Road, Cobb Road.

Parking Restrictions

We ask drivers not to park their vehicles on the above roads from 60 minutes before the event.  We believe all car parks are operating normally at their advertised times for the duration of Carnival Week.

Part of Holmbush car park is used as an assembly area for carnival procession participants from about 18:00 Saturday 9th August. There is usually sufficient capacity for visitor parking as well.

Bus Services

We believe that provided the scheduled bus services are running to time, they are unlikely to be affected by our events.

Carnival Programme 2014(Event Times and Dates)

All set for Carnival and Regatta Week?

Programmes are on sale (Still just £1) giving all the details of all the events taking place.  These can be purchased from the Tourist Information Centre in Lyme Regis, the Big Yellow Carnival Kiosk on the seafront and many of the shops in the town.

Sadly the traditional ‘Wheeled Derby’ and ‘Park and Slide’ cannot take place due to circumstances beyond our control.

Our two most popular events are:

Walk of Light: Torchlight procession – Thursday 7th August 2014.

Carnival Procession and Grand Fireworks display to music – Saturday 9th August 2014.

All of the sale price for the souvenir programmes goes to local good causes as the cost of creating and printing is covered by donors and sponsors.  The programme is again being sold at the inflation-beating price of £1!

All our staff and collectors are unpaid volunteers who do not receive payment of any kind for their time.

All our funds raised go to local good causes, browse around our website for details of previous years’ beneficiaries.

Lyme Regis Carnival Week 2014 – Venues

Main venues for the Lyme Regis Carnival 2014

All of our events take place in the seaside town of Lyme Regis.
The majority of daytime venues are on or near the beach.

Carnival Procession
The procession forms in Holmbush car park (DT7 3LD). It is safer and better for spectators to line the route rather than congregate in the car park.
The route follows Pound Street, Broad Street, Cobb Gate car park, Lower Cart Road, Marine Parade and Cobb Road.
Best viewing is in the town and the sea front.

The following events are usually held on the sandy beach near to the lifeguard hut.
Sand sports, sand castle competition, gymnastic display, egg catching.

The torchlight procession gathers in Langmoor Gardens near to the Pound Street entrance.

The following events take place on the Marine Parade, near to or in the Shelters and immediately adjacent to the Jubilee Pavilion and Big Yellow Carnival Kiosk.
Live Bands, pavement art, dog show, Town Crier competition, golf ball derby, Taekwando display.
